Meet Abel Valdes: Six Years of Getting Central Florida Cool Again
Abel Valdes went to trade school for AC and has been doing it for six years. His favorite part of the job, in his own words: the looks on people's faces when cool air finally pours back into the house after hours in the heat.
What AC certification actually involves
"Went to trade school" compresses a lot. HVAC work is one of the few home trades with a federal license baked in: anyone who handles refrigerant must hold an EPA Section 608 certification, because refrigerants are regulated substances - venting them is illegal, and recovering, charging, and leak-testing them correctly is both an environmental rule and the difference between a repair that lasts and one that limps. Add state contractor licensing on top (True's HVAC license is CAC1820605), plus the electrical, airflow, and combustion knowledge the equipment demands.
The practical customer takeaway: when the quote for a refrigerant leak seems higher than a YouTube video suggested, certified handling is part of what you are buying - and the uncertified alternative tends to solve the problem until the refrigerant finds the same leak again.
